AFC All-star practice

All-Star practice for all AFC teams will be at Ellendale Park.
Beginning Monday , December 1st , Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm and Friday December 5th from 6-7pm.

The All-Star game will be at Haywood County Saturday December 6th, following normal game schedule.

Practice for tonight ( Tuesday October 7th) is cancelled.
Looking at the weather it shows a 90% chance for t-storms at 6pm and 100% at 7 and 8pm.

We have access to a pretty large supply of tickets to the Tiger game vs Louisville Friday October 10th , 7pm at the Liberty Bowl.
We would love to have a large group from Ellendale go and sit together.

Tickets will be assigned on a first come first served basis until they are gone.

Jamboree cheer practice will be this Friday at Freeman Park from 6-8pm.
Since the first practice got rained out our cheerleaders will not be able to be with us for our pep rally.

Football and Cheer Practice cancelled tonight !!

We are cancelling practice Monday August 25th.
The league jamboree cheer practice at Ellendale is cancelled as well.

Pep Rally Friday night !!!

We will have a pep rally Friday night to hand out jerseys after practice at 7pm.
Practice will be from 6-7 then the kids and parents will head up to the concession stand for the pep rally.
We will be cooking and have pizza so plan on having dinner at the pep rally.


We will also be getting the field ready for the games Saturday so your help would be appreciated.

Fundraising

Just a reminder to everyone, Ellendale ( and SYS ) runs on volunteer time and fundraising.
We were fortunate last year to receive quite a bit of money in corporate donations which helped run our organization.
This year we have not been so lucky.
Please check out our fundraising page for things you can do to help.
We have our banner fundraiser which not only helps us out but also provides a nice look to our field.
SYS is running two fundraisers , a Boston Butt Sale and a Golf Tournament please support them if you can.
Also remember to support our Concession Stand , it has been and probably always will be our biggest source of income for the program.

If you have any fundraising ideas please let us know.

Have some time to help the program ? There is always things to do , check with Jessica or Laura and they can point you in the direction you are needed.

We have a great program at Ellendale and with your help it will continue and be even better !

Parent meeting, Wednesday August 20th

There will be a parent meeting Wednesday night August 20th at 6:15.
Please be at the concession stand. The season is upon us and we have some updates and some quick business to take care of.

We will need some help setting up and taking down both fields for the scrimmage this Friday night as well as some help in the concession stand.

Jerseys for parents !!!

Would you like to have a jersey like your child's ?
This year we are offering our parents the opportunity to show support for our kids with an authentic Ellendale adult sized jersey. You can customize the number and the name on the back of the jersey (20 character limit). The cutoff date for these orders will be Aug 26th.

Hot / Bad Weather
Practice in pads has been cancelled today and tomorrow due to the heat.
We will continue to practice in shorts and t-shirt. The rules are that the football commissioner will make his ruling on practices by 3pm the day of practice so you can see trying to call well over 100 children in a 3 hour period is not realistic. Especially considering our coaches and board members have their own full-time jobs to handle as I am sure most of you do. The Breaking News / Blog http://ellendalebears.blogspot.com/ was updated with this information Saturday afternoon before 6pm. The info line 901-313-8352 was updated as well over the weekend with this information.
Please check our websites often to stay up to date with information.
If you do not have internet access please check the info line.

Jersey sizing
If your child has not been fitted for their jersey yet please bring their shoulder pads with them to practice tomorrow.
We will be fitting kids before practice (5:30-6pm) and after practice (8-8:30pm) tomorrow (Tuesday 8-5-08). We have to have our order turned in Wednesday morning so please make sure your child is there with shoulder pads to be fitted.

Schedule
We do not have a game schedule yet and will probably not have it until Monday August 25th. The schedule will be posted on the website as soon as we get it.

E-mail
Several of our coaches have expressed that they would like to keep the primary route of communication between them and the parents via e-mail.
Please remember to check your e-mail regularly for updates from your coaches and team parents.

Future Newsletters
We have decided that printed newsletters will not be the norm this year.
We will still do regular updates that will be on the website and blog as well as e-mail updates. Both the cost involved as well as the fact that for years all of us have watched over half of the printed newsletters be tossed on the ground and never make it to the parent’s hands have pushed us towards this decision. We will make a copy of updates and have them posted at the concession stand for you to read if you do not have internet access.

Football Practice update !!!!

We will still be practicing Monday and Tuesday but we will not be in pads.
The football commissioner has ruled that the weather is too hot to have the kids in pads.
This decision is for the entire league.

The parade of champions starts at 8am this Saturday at Arlington High School. Even if you did not qualify for a championship event please come out and support the team and participate in the parade of champions.

Pre-lim schedule change

The 3200 meter run will be held this Friday night at Arlington High School at 6pm.
The 1600 meter run that had been scheduled for this Friday night will be run Saturday at Arlington High School in between the 800 meter relay and the 400 meter relay.

I also want to remind everyone to be wearing your correct uniform with your shirt tucked in and remove all jewelry or you will be disqualified.

Tomorrow's events will go on as scheduled.

Pre-lims / Championships

The events on the schedule for tonight will be run at Cordova High School.
All other meets for the rest of the year are scheduled at Arlington High School.
These are the Track Events that will be done on Saturday in order.
1. 50m Hurdles - 10-11 Boys ONLY
2. 100m Dash - ALL AGES except 14-15 Girls, Advanced and Novice
3. 400m Dash - ALL AGES except 14-15 Boys
4. 50m Dash - NOVICE ONLY ages 6-11 Boys and Girls
5. 200m Dash - ALL AGES except 14-15 Girls, Advanced and Novice
All field events that are on the schedule for Saturday, May 3, 2008 will be done this Saturday.

In the event of a rain-out for any days events the schedule will be pushed one week ahead.
Friday night events will begin at 6pm , Saturday events will begin at 8:30 am.
Please check in for your events on time or you will be scratched.

Our meet this week will be at Bolton High School.
This is our last regular meet of the year , we have two weeks of prelims and then championships left.
We will see all of you out there at 8am.

Football / Cheer sign-ups !!!

We will have a table setup at the Appling Middle School Community Fair May 10th from 9am -2pm.
We will have a sign-up at Ellendale Park on May 17th.
Also our camp/sign-ups will be June 14th ,28th and July 12th , 19th from 10-12am at Ellendale Park

Football practice will start Monday July 21st and will continue Monday - Friday until September 1st when we will switch to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm and Fridays from 6-7pm.

The fees this year will be $195, the majority of this increase is due to the $15 per child increase in league fees.
We will be fitting your child for their jersey at sign-ups so please bring your shoulder pads with you to make sure we get a proper fit.
We will also let your child pick their own number this year !
Numbers will be assigned in order of paid in full sign-ups so sign up and pay early !

We will also plan to do a home and away jersey this year.

New Track Director

Kevin Campbell has accepted the position as Track Director for Ellendale.
Mr. Campbell has been an asset to Ellendale for several years and you can be sure he will do a great job as our new Track Director.

Pre-Quals 4-19 / Change of location

I just got this from the SYS Secratary about 30 minutes ago.

The Pre-Quals set for this coming Saturday 4/19 have changed locations. It will now be held at Briarcrest High School due to a conflict out at Arlington High School. The time will remain the same. Briarcrest is located at: 10101 East Raleigh LaGrangeEads, TN

Practice Cancelled

After looking at the weather and the number of school closings in the area we have decided to cancel practice for tonight.
Don't forget our next meet is this Saturday at Millington High School .
We will see all of you there at 8am.

Track meet results 4-5-08

Arlington was running the meet this week and was nice enough to put the results into a spreadsheet for us.
I would like to thank Clint ( Arlington's track director ) for sending it over to us.

P.S. Don't forget about Boston Butt / Ham orders. They have to be turned in tomorrow before 6pm.
Also it is the LAST day for sign-ups. If you still plan to sign-up or you have any paperwork not completed yet ( birth certificates , medical release forms , etc) they MUST be turned in by 6pm Tuesday night in order to have them turned in to SYS on time.

Track Meet 4-5-08

Our meet this week will be at Millington High School.
Please be there at 8am.
We will be competing against Millington , Brownsville Road, Whitehaven and Arlington.
The track is located on the North side of the school.
Jessica will not be there Saturday , she will be attending a meeting for SYS cheer.

Practice Thursday April 3rd

The weather is showing scattered showers so we will be having practice unless it rains us out.
Please remember with scattered showers that it may be raining in Bartlett and not at Bolton , this happened a few weeks ago when we cancelled practice on a Saturday. It was raining so hard you could barely see in Bartlett and Bolton High School had only a light drizzle for a few minutes.
We will see you all out there at 5:30.
Don't forget to order your Boston Butt or ham and also get your Ellendale apparel.

Track Apparel

We do have track apparel for purchase if anyone is interested.
We have sweat suits with Ellendale Track on them for $30 and t-shirts for $10.

All apparel is pre-order only and will be delivered to the track in 5-7 business days.

Boston Butt's and Ham's !!!!

We are doing a sale of Boston Butt's and Ham's as a fundraiser for the league ( Shelby Youth Sports). Samples were brought to the league meeting a few weeks ago and they ARE good !!
You can download the order for here , or get a form from Jessica Walker of Chris Barker.
Fill them out with a check payable to SYS and turn them back into Jessica or Chris.

Track Practice

We have been watching the weather all day and according to weather.com it should start clearing around 2pm ( which it appears to be) and continue to be partly cloudy with little chance of rain during our practice time. We will see all of you out there tonight from 5:30-7:30pm.

First Track Meet

Our first Track meet of the 2008 season is this Saturday March 29th.
Please have the kids there by 8am at Bolton High School. We will have uniforms there ready for them.
Also we will be hosting concessions and would appreciate all the help we can get. Please try to get over to the concession stand in between your child's events to lend a hand.
Also please remember to keep your child hydrated in advance as well as during the day. The more water you can get into them between now and Saturday morning the better prepared they will be for running.

The votes are in for your 2008 coaches and the open Booster club VP position, we had several good people put their name in the hat for the position and the board voted in Cortney Wells to fill the remaining term as Vice President. Cortney served as our Events Coordinator last year and will most certainly be a valuable asset in her *new* role at Ellendale.

The 2008 Board (listed below) will lead our organization this year. All of the board members have children that participate in the Ellendale Bears area and are called upon daily to make decisions that affect not only their own children but your child alike. The decisions and actions guide and shape what the Ellendale area is, what it does, and what it will become. The board & coaches have made a commitment to bring positive change for the Ellendale area.

All of the positions at Ellendale are volunteer. These positions are routinely, every few years, up for re-election and or appointment. The new coaches & board members will certainly change the culture of our organization and we hope that these changes will bring a *new* inspiration to the field.

First Track Meet

Our first meet is this Saturday March 29th at Bolton High School.
Kids need to be there by 8am.
We hope to have our uniforms in by Thursday at practice but worst case they will have them to us Friday and we will have them for you Saturday morning.
We will be hosting concessions for this event and we need all the help we can get. If you are a member of Ellendale in any sport and have any time you can spare to help it would be greatly appreciated.
We will begin around 9am and should be done around 1pm.

Practice Cancelled/ Uniforms

Looks like the weather is going to be bad again tonight. We are cancelling practice.
We do need to get the children sized for their uniforms asap in order to have them in by our first meet.
We would like everyone to be at Ellendale Park at 6pm tonight ( Tuesday March 18th).
It should not take long to get your child sized we hope to be done with everyone in about 30 minutes.

Problems with the infoline

We are having issues with our infoline. It is an automated service that works from a phone server.
This morning the weather was checked and it showed that it should be clearing by 11am today so a message was left saying we would have track practice.
As I am sure all of you know the bottom dropped out in Bartlett around 10:15 and shortly after that we decided to cancel practice. At that time the infoline message was changed but for some reason it did not and at this time still has not updated. When either Jessica or I log into the admin interface it plays the new message that Jessica recorded but for some reason which we cannot explain yet the old message left around 9am this morning is still playing when the number is called.
We sincerely apologize for the problems this has caused and are doing everything we can to make sure this doesn't happen again.
We will be sizing kids for track uniforms Tuesday so please try to be at practice.

Cheer sign-ups

We will have our first cheer sign-up Saturday March 15th at Bolton High School Track during our track pratice from 11am-1pm.
Ellendale will be doing non-competive ( JV) cheer this year.
We do not have our total cost yet but we are doing our best to keep it as cheap as possible.
We are still waiting on some figures to come in from the league before we can finalize our budget and fees.

Track Practice cancelled

Looks like the weather is not cooperating with us at all. :-)
That is to be expected this time of the year.
We will be cancelling practice tonight March 6th and Saturday March 8th.
We will resume practice Tuesday March 11th from 5:30-7:30 at Bolton High School Track.

Practice Cancelled

Track Practice is cancelled for Tuesday March 4th due to weather.
It is against league rules to practice track if the weather is below 50 degrees.
As always when in doubt about a cancellation or change please check the infoline 901-313-8352.
We will pickup with our regularly scheduled practice on Thursday March 6th from 5:30-7:30pm

If you are having trouble finding track shoes we have found a few places that carry them. Please remember in our league ( SYS ) children are not allowed to have metal spikes.

2008 Track is almost here !!!

We will be having our last sign-up before the season begins this Saturday ( Feb. 22nd ) at Ellendale Park from 11am - 1pm.
Come on out and get signed up.
Please bring a recent photo and a copy of your child's birth certificate.
The fees this year are $125.

First practice will be Saturday March 1st from 11am -1pm at Bolton High School.
The regular pratice schedule will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm -7:30pm and every Saturday from 11am-1pm until our first meet.
Meets will be on Saturdays and regular practices will be every Tuesday and Thursday evening.
All practices will be held at Bolton High School and Ellendale would like to thank the Bolton Track program for their continued support.

We do not have the schedule for the Track meets yet but as soon as we have it we will post it here and on our website.

The Head Coach this year will be Keith Woods.
